We actually “use” essential oils in our everyday lives. They are used to flavor foods and can be found in things like toothpaste and mouthwash. Oils are also in perfumes, skin care products, candles, and laundry detergents. They are many places that you wouldn’t guess but not all oils are created equally. These oils found in foods, cosmetics, and scented products are typically synthetic. Synthetic oils are typically made from petrochemicals in a lab and are created to try and duplicate the smell and properties of a plant. When you are ingesting or applying something that is synthetic, your body processes it as a toxin, therefore it becomes harder to break down or can be stored in fat cells. These types of synthetic oils work against your body and can be very harmful.
Young Living Essential Oils are therapeutic grade which means they are 100% pure and derived straight from the plant. They are aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. They contain the plant’s own immunity, hormones, and scents. When oils are pure, they have the ability to work with your body, not against it, to bring about change in your health. Within 20 minutes of applying oils, they can be found in every cell of your body.
So you might be wondering how they extract these oils. To put it simply, oils are distilled from the “life blood” of plants. With most oils, the plant is harvested, then ground in order to be distilled over low heat and long periods of time. After the oil has separated from the water, it is then bottled, tested for purity and shipped straight to your door!

How do I use essential oils?
Young Living Essential oils can be used three ways:
Be sure to check the label so you know how to use each particular oil safely. ****when reading these please do NOT try on any other brand, what I write is specifically for Young Living.

Essential oils can be applied directly to the skin. A common example is applying lavender essential oil to a burn or melrose to areas of dry skin.
Some essential oils need to be diluted before being applied to the skin. These are often referred to as “hot” oils. Dilution is done with the use of a carrier oil such as extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed, jojoba, almond, or fractionated coconut oil. The great thing about diluting an oil is that it does not lessen it’s effect. So you are able to reach a greater surface area without lessening the effects of the oil.

Another way that essential oils enter the body is inhalation through the nose or mouth. Common examples include inhaling Eucalyptus Radiata essential oil to cleanse and freshen the air or inhaling Stress Away essential oil to provide an overall feeling of relaxation. My favorite way to inhale my essential oils is by using a diffuser. It gives my home a great smell along with providing great health benefits.
Molecules inhaled through the nose or mouth are also carried to the lungs and interact with the respiratory system. Inhaled essential oils can support the body through several systems and pathways.

The third way that essential oils enter the body is by ingestion. The only essential oils that should ever be ingested are 100% pure, sustainably grown, essential oils labeled specifically as dietary supplements. The only absolutely pure essential oils that I know of and trust are Young Living’s essential oils (see Young Living’s Seed to Seal purity promise here). They have a Vitality line of oils that are all dietary oils, safe and intended for internal use. I love adding peppermint vitality to my glass of water in the mornings for awakening. I also love adding grapefruit vitality to my water to give it a great taste while providing health benefits.
Beware of the Knockoffs
Did you know an essential oil can be labeled as “pure” as long as no less than 5% of it is actually pure? Only FIVE percent! The remaining 95% of the bottle can be anything (fillers, additives, etc.)! So, that bottle of essential oil from your local organic market that you thought was a better deal does NOT mean it’s safe to ingest. Why would you want to own or buy something that mentions it cannot be diffused or ingested, or even flammable?? Think about it. This is why my family and I chose Young Living because of the purity, the trueness they provide for families all over the world! We’ve seen what it’s done for us and many all over the world and for that we use Young Living.
